Description

The objective of this research was to determine the potential and influence of the limitations for the production and certification of organic coffee on farms in the districts of Chontabamba, Oxapampa and Huancabamba in the province of Oxapampa, Pasco. It was found that 9.8% of the coffee growers are located in group I and have a high potential to certify and produce organic coffee in the short term, 73.2% of the coffee growers are located in group II and have a medium potential, and 17.1% of the coffee growers are located in group III and have a low potential. The main limitations for the certification and production of organic coffee in the study area, in order of relevance, are: the weak associativity of the producers, the lack of financing and the low level of technological management, the deficient associativity directly influences the unconsolidated coffee value chain, the weak business management and these in turn influence the limited financing of the certification process.
