Description

Six field experiments were conducted at the Bangladesh Sugarcrop Research Institute (BSRI) Farm, Ishurdi, from November 2012 to December 2015 to study the influence of variety, spacing, fertilization, sowing date, and intercropping on tropical sugarbeet yield. Results showed that variety Cauvery and spacing of 50×20 cm yielded the highest beet and sugar, while fertilization with Urea, TSP, MoP, and Cowdung @ 260, 100, 225 kg ha-1 with 10 t ha-1 produced optimal results. Early sowing on 30th October further enhanced yields. Intercropping with paired row sugarcane, particularly using the PRC conventional + 3 line SB combination, resulted in significant benefits. These findings suggest that cultivating Cauvery variety with closer spacing, early sowing, and appropriate fertilization can maximize tropical sugarbeet yields in Bangladesh, while intercropping with paired row sugarcane can further enhance overall productivity.
