Event Description

emet ezell and Mónica Gomery are two Jewish poets with new books out this fall. Their collections explore themes of diaspora, the geopolitics of the body, the wounds of assimilation, as well as the embodiment of queer joy.

 

ABOUT THE AUTHORS:

Mónica Gomery is the author of Might Kindred, winner of the 2021 Prairie Schooner Raz-Shumaker Book Prize, judged by Kwame Dawes, Aimee Nezhukumatathil, and Hilda Raz. Her poems have won the 2022 Sappho Prize for Women Poets, and the 2020 Minola Review Poetry Contest, and appear most recently in MuzzleAdroit JournalBlack Warrior Review, and forthcoming in The Iowa Review and Poet Lore. She is also the author of Here is the Night and the Night on the Road (Cooper Dillon Books, 2018) and Of Darkness and Tumbling (YesYes Books, 2017). She serves as a rabbi at Kol Tzedek, a multiracial, intergenerational, justice-oriented synagogue on unceded Lenni Lenape land in West Philadelphia. www.monicagomerywriting.org

emet ezell is a community organizer, public song leader, and poet. They are the author of BETWEEN EVERY BIRD, OUR BONES (Newfound 2022), selected by the poet Chen Chen for the 2021 Gloria Anzaldúa Poetry Prize.
