An event organized by Pilam (Pi Lambda Phi - Epsilon
Zeta), a fraternity at the University of Pennsylvania
The lineup features the finest in queer musicians from
Philly and the East Coast:
SWEATHEART: Since the debut of their first album ‘So
Cherri,’ dubbed "approachable stadium rock" by the band itself,
Sweatheart has added a drum machine, Amanda Blank, and a pop sensibility that's
quirky and tender at the same time. Touring their new release ‘Tell Your Sister,’
Sweatheart have shared the stage with Devo, Ween, and Bad Brains, and are sure
to rock your world with their colorful live set. (sweatheartsweats.com)
SGT. SASS: Philly's premier "fag rappers," Sgt. Sass have been
shaking up the underground hip-hop and electronic scenes for the past few
years. Delivering a potent mix of rhyme and beats, Sgt. Sass's latest release,
a digital EP entitled ‘Body Rock,’ hears them continuing their plan to destroy
dance-floors from warehouses to clubs, while acting as a voice to queers around
the world. (myspace.com/herecumdemfags)
BENNI E: Philly MC Benni E flows like nobody’s business, dropping powerful,
politicized raps and rapid-fire party rhymes over heavy beats. Overtly queer
and musically adventurous, Benni E's combination of hip-hop and neo-soul is
innovative and seamless, and has earned her accolades from hip-hop critics
across the nation. Her specialty is weaving stories of sex, politics, art, and
life into a social commentary with beats that'll make you dance your blues
away. (myspace.com/bennipanama)
PLANET RUMP: Made up of three intergalactic funkateers - Nasty Ness, Miss
Strawberry, and DJ Tantric, these out-of-this-world superstars find Earth
painfully frigid compared to the booty-shaking heat of their home Planet Rump.
Their desire is to liberate Earthlings with their own special brand of ultra
funky electronic dance music energy, akin to the electroclash sounds of Avenue
D. (planetrump.bandcamp.com)
W!ILL SHERIDAN: Delaware native and former star athlete at Villanova University,
Sheridan's fierce and magnetic personality comes across as pure energy in his
music. With live performances that combine just the right amounts of humor and
pride, W!ll is a fearless powerhouse on the rise. Check out new single ‘Welcome
to the Jungle!’ (willsheridanmusic.blogspot.com)
LESBIAN DORKESTRA: West Philly's resident "warriors against
misogyny," this gang of marching band geeks are a bunch of creative
musical wunderkinds.
GEPPETTA: Part political activist, part traveling puppeteer, Geppetta
integrates storytelling with vocal performance to help us all find voices for
our mad gifts. Infusing her surreal tales with transfeminist sensibilites and a
penchant for social activism, Geppetta presents art as a cryptic and
politically conscious language that is as inventive as it is empowering. (geppetta.weebly.com)
There will be an afterparty, location announced day of - so come to the show!
